Squarely › Carpet takeoff

Carpet takeoff software that lays out the seams for you

Draw the rooms on your plan and get the drops, seams and fills a carpet installer would cut — and the linear feet of roll to order, instead of square yards plus a waste guess.

A seam layout for every room

  • Each room is cut into drops the width of your roll (12', 13'-6", 15' or any width), with trim at both ends.
  • Seams are placed where the drops meet and drawn on the plan, so you can see them before you bid.
  • Where a drop would cross two separate parts of a room — a U-shaped room, a hall around a core — it becomes two drops, not one long one.
  • Fix the direction the roll runs on any room, or let it pick the direction that cuts the least roll.

Less roll for the whole job

  • Narrow fill strips from every room are packed side by side across the roll, so three 4' fills share one cut.
  • Directions are chosen across the whole job, not room by room, so fills from different rooms can share.
  • Typical units count every copy: measure one unit, count it 80 times, and all 80 layouts are planned together.
  • The estimate shows linear feet of roll, number of cuts, seam length and the real waste percentage.

Fast on big jobs

  • The seam planner is written in Rust and runs in your browser as WebAssembly: thousands of rooms are laid out in a fraction of a second.
  • Your plans never leave your computer to be planned.

Questions

Does it work for sheet vinyl too?

Yes. Any roll product with a roll width — carpet or sheet vinyl — is laid out the same way.

Can I choose which way the seams run?

Yes. Each room has a Seams run setting: Auto (least roll) or a fixed direction.

How is waste calculated?

From the layout itself: drops plus trim, and fills as they're actually cut, compared with the room's measured area.
